Teaching Kids About Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a great opportunity to honor and give thanks to those who have served and continue to serve in the military. On November 11th, our community will come together for a fun filled parade to honor and meet those who have served and protected our country. We wanted to take that opportunity to show our gratitude.

Today, Monday the 9th, I decided to skip the whole homeschooling curriculum and take the time to educate my children about this very important day in our lives. This day can sometimes go unnoticed by kids being that it's between the excitement of Halloween and Thanksgiving.

You may want to consider talking to your kids a bit more about:

★ People in the family or perhaps in your neighborhood who are veterans that they may know

★ Freedoms that we have as Americans of the United States

★ The things that soldiers sacrificed to keep our country free. For examples, family time, holidays with their families, special events like a sports game or even as simple as watching their child take their first step, etc...)

Say Thank you! Be a role model to your children. If you see a veteran on the street, say THANK YOU. Explain to your children at that moment the importance of saying thank you. Grab this FREE printable WORD SEARCH below for your kids to enjoy. Take the time to explain some of the meanings of these words to them. ENJOY!
